
Robert J. Buchwalder, 79, of Beavercreek, OH died November 8, 2011 at his home. Born in Bridgeport, CT on March 9, 1932, he was the son of Fernand and Irene (Fuller) Buchwalder. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sisters, Jeanne O’Leary and Catherine Buchwalder. He is survived by his loving family which includes his wife of 54 years, Phyllis (Hess) Buchwalder; sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Dawn (McGarvey) Buchwalder, Mark and Mary (Pelszynski) Buchwalder; grandchildren Diane, Kyle, Max and Laura Buchwalder; sisters Marianne Antezzo and Annette Arnold; brother Francis Buchwalder; sisters-in-law Kathleen Hopkins and Marcia Gulley; many nieces and nephews, and a special nephew Andrew Gulley who was one of his caregivers. Bob was a 1956 graduate of the University of Cincinnati where he received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. As a member of Phi Kappa Fraternity at U.C. he was embraced by his loving ‘brothers’ who have remained life-long friends. After graduation he worked at Harris-Seybold in Dayton, Bendix Eclipse in Elmira, NY and Globe Industries in Dayton. In 1977 he founded Motor Technology, Inc. which became his life-long passion until his retirement in 2008. He was a member of the Soaring Society of Dayton, and the Elmira Area Soaring Corporation. Serving as Troop Committee Chairman of Boy Scout Troop 68 in Beavercreek, he spent many happy years accompanying his sons on camping trips. He was a loyal supporter of the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps of Madison, WI and enjoyed many summers traveling to competitions with his family and drum corps enthusiast friends. His many interests included ragtime music, vacationing at the Outer Banks, and the annual Buchwalder campout at Ole Bull State Park in Pennsylvania. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 26 at 9:30 a.m. in the Chapel at Calvary Cemetery, Dayton. After the service the family will greet friends at a Celebration of Life Reception from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Marriott Hotel, Dayton.
