

MOORE, Robert Lester age 68 of Dayton, passed away peacefully Saturday February 1, 2014 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born in Dayton, Ohio on July 26, 1945 to the late Eugene Burgess and Ann Lester Moore. He was a 1963 graduate of Chaminade High School and a 1967 graduate of the University of Dayton. Bob received his law degree in 1972 from Ohio Northern University. Bob spent 24 years practicing law in the Dayton area before being elected Judge in Kettering Municipal Court in 1996. Bob’s passion for the law and justice was evident and he treasured his 18 years on the bench. Bob also loved sports, taking to the field to officiate baseball, basketball, and football for 30 years. In 1984, Bob was recruited by the National Football League as a back judge and, over the next 13 years, officiated numerous divisional and conference championships including the Pro Bowl. For over 30 years, Bob was an active member of the Dor-Wood Optimist Club, serving in many roles including Governor of the Ohio District, and the Agonis Club. For 20 years, Bob was a trustee of the First Kettering Athletic League serving youth in his community. Throughout his life, Bob received numerous awards for service and leadership in the community and was especially honored to be named a Chaminade Julienne High School Distinguished Alumnus and inducted into the Optimist International Ohio District Hall of Fame. Bob’s most coveted roles were that of loving and devoted husband, proud and dedicated father, and adoring Pop. Bob is survived by his wife of 43 years, Louise ‘Toni’ Prasnikar Moore and their children Timothy Moore (Mary Ellen), Matthew Moore (Elissa), and Elizabeth Moore Osborne (Walter) and nine grandchildren Sean, Molly, Katherine, Owen, Cormac, Kevin, Agnes, Ava, and Eamon. Bob is also survived by his sisters Molly (Al) Horstman, Ann (Chuck) Szabo, and brother Jack (Sue) Moore and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Michael and Joseph Moore and sister Martha Carrick. Bob will always be remembered for ‘calling it as he saw it’ whether on the football field, the judicial bench, or in everyday life; his unwavering integrity, deep love of family, commitment to his community, and sound faith. Bob was a trusted counselor and mentor to many and showed deep respect for his fellow man. Bob courageously battled cancer for over 11 years with outrageous optimism, steadfast faith, and true appreciation for the gift of each day. His family is comforted knowing Bob now rests in God’s loving arms. Bob’s family would like to thank Dr. Manish Sheth, his trusted oncologist, and many cherished friends who brought joy and comfort to Bob throughout his life and in his final days. Visitation will be held on Friday February 7 from 5:00-8:00 PM at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 4500 Ackerman Blvd., Kettering, Ohio 45429. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday February 8 at St. Charles Borromeo Church with Father Gerald Haemmerle officiating.
