
ROOSA, Robert Carey, born October 4, 1918 to Herbert C. and Lura M. (Elliott) Roosa, of Goshen, Ohio. He grew up on the farm in Maineville with one sister, Ruth. Was an active member in the Methodist Church there; and graduated from Morrow High School. In December 1941he married Mildred C. Tufts Cherry and adopted Barbara Ann Cherry. October 1942 he joined the 432d Army Air Force Base unit as AP Engine Mechanic. As a Sergeant he received the American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal in WWII and good conduct medal before being honorably discharged in November of 1945. Robert worked for NCR for 30 years and Metropolitan Life for five. He enjoyed reading especially the National Geographic and crosswords; photography of covered bridges in several states. He also enjoyed feeding and watching birds and squirrels. Robert played the cornet in the Maineville band. He was preceded in death by his parent; wife, “Millie”; sister, Ruth Roosa Zang; and brother-in-law, William Zang; granddaughter, Kathleen Renee Ballard; and son-in-law, Larry Joseph Ballard. Robert is survived by daughter, Barbara Ann Ballard; grandchildren, Ted Andrew Ballard, Christopher Joseph(Tracy)Ballard, Samuel Allen Ballard, and Joel Harrison(Pamela)Ballard; great-grandchildren, Sean McAvoy Ballard, William Joseph Ballard, Maryn Clare-Kirie Ballard, Harrison William Ballard, Kathleen Elizabeth Ballard, and Nicholas Alexander Ballard. He is also survived by a cousin, Irene Flaig (William)Hurtt of Lebanon, OH; cousins, Betty Jean Kuhl of Cincinnati, OH., Donald (Pat)Roosa of Iota,LA., Robert(Tracy)Roosa of Church Point,LA., and Vonda Lee of Marrietta, OH. Funeral service 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-Far Hills Chapel with Rev. Richard Schneider officiating. Burial will follow in Maineville Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Alzheimer’s Association of Kettering, OH., Comfort Keepers, Buckeye Home Health, or Hospice of the Miami Valley in Robert’s memory.
