DAYTON, OH. The Rev. Robert Allen Willauer, 89, passed onto the Church Triumphant on July 26, 2025. He was born in Easton, PA on January 19, 1936 to Allen Robert and Matilda Margaret (Meixsell) Willauer. He married Gloria Ann Willauer on May 28, 1960 and together they have four children and are survived by the same: Susan Lessie Hickey (Joseph), Linda Margaret Utt (James), John Paul Willauer and Christopher David Willauer (Tami). They have six grandchildren: Danielle Cain, Nathan Cain, Jordan Willauer, Luca Willauer, Connor Utt and Liam Utt; and two Great-grandsons, Carter Cain and Owen Cain.
He served as music director Yellowstone National Park for 2 seasons before being called to his first churches, in Blandon, PA then Altoona, PA. Robert spent 30 years of his career at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Dayton, OH, as Assistant Pastor, Youth Pastor, Music Director and, eventually, Senior Pastor. Upon retirement, Robert and Gloria became snowbirds in Ft. Myers Beach, FL and volunteered at St Peter Lutheran Church and the Holiday Condo Community Church.
Beyond his ministry, Robert was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He found his greatest joy in his family and created countless cherished memories with them. One of his greatest acts of love was providing a home on the Florida coast. This special place became a cherished retreat for his children and grandchildren—a space for connection, laughter, and togetherness.
A gifted musician, Robert had a deep love & enthusiasm for music, which he eagerly shared with others. Whether leading a church choir or teaching others to play, music was the language of his soul. He believed music was one of God's greatest gifts and found joy in helping others discover that same passion.
