Rose Mary Waller, 85, of Centerville, formerly of Akron, passed away peacefully surrounded by her daughters on July 12, 2022. Born in Akron and attending Buchtel High School, Rose Mary graduated from Akron University where she was a Key Recipient in the Honor Society, member of Student Council and a Senior Women’s Faculty Advisor as well as a member of Alpha Delta Pi. Upon graduation, Rose Mary married her high school sweetheart and began her career teaching at West Carrollton High School. A dedicated mother, she raised her daughters at home with love, family values and integrity. She encouraged her family as well as her students to always do their best and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. She returned to her passion of teaching first to Centerville High School, then at Colonel White High School followed by Belmont High School while at the same time earning her master’s degree at Wright State University. Teaching Spanish gave her the opportunity to indulge in her other passion of travel, where she would chaperone school trips to both Spain and Mexico. Her favorite trip of all, however, was Italy with her husband. They enjoyed ‘la dolce vita’ viewing the arts, eating the delicious cuisine and sightseeing the splendor of the country. Rose Mary was also a lover of puzzles, crosswords and especially the card game Quiddler with her grandsons. Rose Mary leaves behind a legacy of compassion towards all life: nature, animals and people.
Rose Mary is predeceased by her spouse of 62 years, Richard, and mother, Mary Alice. She is survived by brother-in-law Gary, daughters Laura (Rob) and Carole, grandchildren Evan, Alex, Ben and Derek. Rose Mary was loved by her family for her kindness, generosity and strength. The family would like to thank the caregivers of Miami Valley South Hospital for their heroic efforts and attentive care. Christian funeral services will be held at David’s Cemetery Monday, July 18, 2022 at 11:00am in the chapel. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SICSA of Ohio or the Humane Society. Salutation of the Dawn
Kalidasa (5th century, Sanskrit poet)
Look to the Day!
For it is Life, the very life of life,
In its brief course lie all the
verities and realities of your existence:
The bliss of growth,
The glory of action,
The splendor of beauty,
For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow is only a vision,
But today, well lived, makes
Every yesterday a dream of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day!
Such is the salutation of the dawn.
