

Samuel Clay Lovett, age 68, passed away October 17, 2023. Sam was born March 1, 1955, in El Paso, TX. He was proceeded in death by his father, Clifford M. Lovett, his mother Bertha Jane Lovett (Grossnickle), his stepmother Carol Lovett (Elrod), stepbrother Wayne Elrod and a stepsister Melody Elrod Chase. He is survived by his siblings, Clifford Lovett II (Sue) Shawnee, KS, Edward Lovett (Mary) Centerville, OH, Joseph Lovett Miamisburg, OH, Vicki Lovett Gracian (Carlos) San Antonio, TX, Joyce Elrod (Pam) of Jamestown, OH, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, his long-time friends, Kevin Clary and Wayne Whitmill, and his dog Buddy 2.
He graduated from Fairmont West High School (Kettering) in 1973. He went to RETS Tech Center in Centerville, OH. He started working at Kettering Health main campus as a teenager, and retired at age 65, after 46 years of service. He worked in various departments over his long career, including grounds, plant engineering, and information systems, retiring as senior telecom engineer. He was also a volunteer firefighter for Washington Township Fire Department, Station 3 (43) for many years.
Sam loved his job. At work he was referred to as “Sam the phone man.” Sam had a generous heart and was always willing to help anyone. Many weekends you would find him and his friend Kevin working on projects for others. He loved tinkering with any kind of electronics. His friend Wayne said Sam is the “man that would get it done.” Sam will be truly missed by all his family and friends.
The gathering of family and friends will start at 2:00 PM at Tobias Funeral Home on Saturday October 21, 2023, 5471 Far Hills Road, Dayton, OH 45459, followed by a Celebration of Sam’s Life at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Sam.
