Shirley Joan (Sharp) Kilgore, age 90, of Centerville passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026. Shirley was a loving and proud daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was born on September 19, 1935, in Newcomb, TN, to James W. and Pauline Sharp. Shirley graduated from Eastern Kentucky University, where she met her college sweetheart J.B. (Jim), who later became her husband of 61 years and the love of her life. The two were devoted partners and loved spending time with family and their dear friends, traveling, and simply enjoying each other’s company. Shirley was an elementary school teacher before ultimately living her life as the family matriarch and caretaker of her loved ones. She was a consummate lady who never met a stranger. Those who befriended her had a loyal companion for life, as she was called “sister” by many. She had a soft heart for animals, was a talented cook and pianist, and always took great pride in her flower garden. Shirley was affiliated with the Order of the Eastern Star, as well as a longtime member of Dayton’s Far Hills Church. She is survived by daughters, Tracey (Kevin) Hogan and Jane (Troy) Herman; granddaughters, Hannah Hogan and Chloe Herman; sisters, Barbara Burton and Betty Lucas; and many adored nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved parents, husband, and grandson, Joshua Hogan. A private service for Shirley’s family will take place at Tobias Funeral Home – Far Hills Chapel, Dayton. Burial will follow at Miami Valley Memorial Gardens on Lytle 5 Points Road. Shirley will be greatly missed by those who had the fortune of knowing her, and will always hold a special place in our hearts. A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful caregivers at Bethany Village and Ohio Living Bethany Hospice. Condolences may be sent to www.tobiasfuneralhome.com
