He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Ann Nelson (Russell).
Steven is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Amy Nelson; his children, Sara Valach (Luke), Emily Nelson, Rebecca Nelson (Adam Perez), and Evan Nelson (Kelsey Gardner); and his grandchildren, Hunter and Weston Valach. He is also survived by his sister, Susan Hirth (Wally), and his nieces, Heather Shaw (Ben) and Rachel Mossop (Julian).
Steven loved cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes and Liverpool F.C., and he especially enjoyed visits to the Amish Country and trips to Surfside Beach, South Carolina. In his spare time, he enjoyed bird watching, gardening, collecting magnets, and listening to Jimmy Buffett.
Steven was a good man in every sense of the word, a good father, good husband, good son, and good brother. He will be remembered as a truly kind and gentle giant.
A Memorial Visitation will be held at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45429, on April 1, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
