

Tom was born on January 2, 1947, in Springfield, OH. He graduated from Chaminade High School in 1965 and the University of Dayton in 1969, where he played center for the football team. After completing his military service in 1972, Tom joined the H.C. Anderton, Inc. insurance agency, founded by his grandfather in the 1930’s. Tom had the pleasure of working alongside his parents for twenty years until they retired, and then ran the agency until his own retirement in 2018.
Tom proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was a long-time member of the Dayton Agonis Club and the Riverdale Optimist Club (past president) and an avid golfer in his spare time.
Tom was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and grandfather who absolutely adored his three granddaughters. An ardent and loyal sports fan, he loved to watch Dayton Flyers football and basketball and the Cincinnati Bengals, attending two of the Bengals Super Bowls.
Tom is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jo Ellen (Jo); his son Bryan and his daughter Emily (Ryan) Hoyt; his grandchildren Peyton, Taylor, and Brooke; his brothers Frank, Kevin (Tammy), an John (Susan); and his sister-n-law Judy Rechberger, along with numerous beloved nephews and nieces. Thomas was preceded in death by his father and mother, Raphael R. (Ray) and Beth Kavanaugh, and his brother Raphael R., Jr. (Ray).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Dayton or your charity of choice. Tom’s visitation will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2023 from 3-6pm at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, OH. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, August 21, 2023, at 11:00am at Church of the Incarnation, 55 Williamsburg Lane.
