

Thomas “Tom” A. Sammons, age 81 of Dayton, passed away September 30, 2017. Born March 18, 1936 in Dayton, OH he was a 1954 graduate of Stivers High School. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Thomas and Inez Lillian (Brown) Sammons, his sisters Karen and Sister Patricia, his brother James (Ned) and his sister-in-law Rachel Sammons. He is survived by his sisters Sister Marie Karen, Delores (Dee) and brother Michael. Additional survivors include Wavi Sammons and his children Danny (Darlene) Sammons, Michelle Tiley, Bill “Skinny” (Tressa) Sammons, Tara Sammons, and Michael Sammons. He is also survived by five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two nieces, two nephews and numerous friends and former colleagues. Tom served 37 years with the Dayton Police Department retiring as a Detective in 2002 and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP). He served two-terms as president of the Woodhaven Swim Club and was a lifelong fan of both the UD flyers and Cincinnati Bengals. A memorial for Tom will be held at the Dayton FOP Lodge, 4275 Powell Rd. Dayton, OH 45424 on SUNDAY, November 5, 2017 from 1-4 PM. Condolences for the family can be made at www.tobiasfuneralhome.com.
