Born in Teaneck, New Jersey, Marty lived a life defined by devotion to family, steadfast faith, and a deep commitment to serving others. Those who knew him remember his strength, unwavering integrity, and determined leadership. He had a natural curiosity and a lifelong ability to build and solve problems and projects with care and precision.
He graduated from Lakewood High School in 1954 and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cleveland State University. Marty built a successful engineering career that led to executive leadership, ultimately running a division of the Lau Industries and Huffy Corporation. During his tenure with both executive positions, he traveled the world extensively and would include his wife, Barb, in his travels whenever possible. Later, he followed his entrepreneurial spirit and founded ABIC, a business brokerage where he helped others realize their dreams of business ownership.
Faith and service were central to Marty’s life. At Normandy Church, he was a lay speaker, Bible study leader, and an active member of the Emmaus community. He also served on the boards of United Theological Seminary and Daybreak, a youth homeless shelter, offering his time, wisdom, and heart to those in need.
At home, Marty was the steady center of his family. He treasured the bonds between generations and created traditions that brought everyone together, including the spirited family competitions he proudly called “Martin Madness.” He was married to his beloved wife, Barbara Martin, for 68 years — a partnership marked by love, faith, and enduring devotion. An avid fisherman, Marty also enjoyed woodworking, playing tennis, and cooking for those he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Deni (Brian) Benedict, Wendy (Bryan) Erdmann, and Scott (Tricia) Martin; his grandchildren, Benjamin and Grant Martin, Adriane (husband Don Farmer), Cloe and Dylan Benedict, and Jason (wife Chelsey), Nikki (husband Nathan) O'Neel along with Kylee, Ashley, Zachary Meredith, and his great‑grandchildren, Maisie and Oliver O'Neel, all of whom brought him immeasurable pride and joy.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on February 14, 2026 at the Bethany Village Chapel, 6451 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45459. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your charity of choice in remembrance of Marty. Condolences may be sent to www.tobiasfuneralhome.com
