

Antonia “Toni” Schniedewind Nieuwenhuijs, 88, passed away on June 21, 2017. Antonia was born on June 19, 1929 in Hillegom, Netherlands. She married the late Evert Nieuwenhuijs, a Sergeant Major in the Dutch Airforce, on April 4, 1951. During their union they had the privilege of traveling around the world. In December of 1959 the couple, along with their three children, relocated to America aboard a cruise ship. The couple settled in Los Angeles, and during this time two more children were born. In 1976 the family moved to Hartford, Kentucky. After the passing of her husband in 2008 Antonia decided to settle in Decatur, AL. Antonia was a devoted wife and loving mother. Her children simply define her as “amazing”. She had a love for animals; and she held special place in her heart for the children of St. Jude Research Hospital.
Antonia was preceded in death by her son, Hendrick Jan Nieuwenhuijs, and her loving husband Evert Johan Nieuwenhuijs.
Antonia’s memories will be cherished by her son John Nieuwenhuijs (Dana) of Springfield, TN; four daughters; Carla Crawley (Louis) of Nashville, TN; Joyce Hilliker (Ken) of Fallen, NV; Marilyn Morgan (Alan) of Ashland City, TN; and Patricia Wallace (Joe) of Decatur, AL. 13 grandchildren. 13 great-grandchildren.
