Funeral for Betty Jane McRae Porter, 81, of Decatur will be today, July 14, 2011, at 3 p.m. in the chapel at Roselawn Funeral Home with Bro. Eric Albright officiating. Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Porter passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at Falkville Healthcare. She was born April 21, 1930, in Morgan County to Claude and Rhoda McRae. Mrs. Porter was a graduate from Riverside High School. She retired after 33 years from the State of Alabama Department of Industrial Relations. She touched many lives through her work with the state. Mrs. Porter was a very active member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling with her husband of 62 years, Charles Edward Porter. She enjoyed sewing, cross stitching, and crocheting as well as attending auctions, flea markets and estate sales. Her greatest and proudest accomplishment was her son, Gary Porter and grandson, Chuck. She was very proud of both of them. Her parents, husband, and brother, Bennett McRae, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son, Gary Porter (Elizabeth); and grandson, Charles "Chuck" Porter, both of Decatur.
Pallbearers will be Charles Porter, Kevin McGrew, Chris Shannon, Carey McRae, Michael Johnson and Alan Fuller. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Grey, Merv Michael and Joe Hill.
