
Bettye Jean Lane Burt passed away on April 18, 2013. She was born May 21, 1927 in Mississippi to William Jennings Lane and Mattie Lee Pringle Lane. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 43 years, Dr. Charles H. Burt; one brother, Robert "Bobby" Lane. Bettye was raised in Thomaston and graduated from Marengo County High School. She obtained her B.S. degree from Montevallo College. Bettye was a member of First Baptist Church of Decatur. She taught a Sunday school class for teenage girls for over 40 years. She was still actively involved in the church and still teaching preceding her death.
She is survived by son, Hunter Burt (Debbie) of Trinity, daughter, Lane Betz (Buster) of Madison, son, Allan Burt (Deanna) of Birmingham, son, Stan Burt (Kelli) of Birmingham; seven grandchildren, Matt and Ashley Betz, Brooke and Bailey Burt, Lindsey Burt, Sydney and Jonathan Sickles, Anna Claire and Walker Woodall; brothers, Paul Lane of Rome, Ga., and Bill Lane (Carolyn) of Chicago, Ill.
A celebration of life service will be Monday, April 22, 2013 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Decatur.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 123 Church Street, Decatur, AL 35601. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Heather Shah of Decatur, Dr. Lisle Nabell of Birmingham, Dr. Phillip McGee of Huntsville, and all their staff. Roselawn Funeral Home is assisting the family.
