Born on September 10, 1936, in Trinity, Alabama, Bonnie was the youngest of nine children born to Thomas Arthur Morgan and Velma Kay Morgan. After her father’s early passing, she was raised by her mother on Mount Tabor Road in Hartselle, Alabama and developed a special bond with her brother Bob during her formative years.
Bonnie was a 1953 graduate of Hartselle High School. She was working at a local shoe shop when she had a blind date with Robert M. Sellers. They married on August 22, 1954, beginning a 66-year love story that endured until Robert’s passing. After stops in Aiken, South Carolina and Wilmington, Delaware, Bonnie and Robert settled in Decatur, Alabama in 1958, where they spent the next 60 years.
Bonnie had a remarkable flair for working with her hands—she was an accomplished florist, seamstress, cook, gardener, and gracious hostess. A faithful Christian, she took delight in using her talents to care for others. Her unconditional love for Robert and her family often showed itself most warmly through the meals she lovingly prepared for them. Her family especially cherished her Monday night dinners, which became a favorite tradition. During holidays, it was common practice for Bonnie to make sure she prepared at least one dish that was each person's favorite.
She cherished her family—Robert, their children Bob (Mary-Noel), Cindy (Steve), and Suzette (Ed)—and her grandchildren: Mary-Kate, Morgan, Mary Sellers, Wesley, Eddie, and Abby. She later welcomed with joy her great-grandchildren Mary-Tiernan, Cecilia, William, Marie, and Bennett. Her warmth and kindness extended beyond her immediate family; she was a favorite among her children's friends, reflecting her deep affection for younger generations.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Decatur Public Library (Friends of the Library), honoring Bonnie’s lifelong love of reading and learning. Gifts may be sent to Friends of Decatur Public Library, 504 Cherry Street NE, Decatur, AL 35601.
A graveside service celebrating Bonnie’s life will be held Monday, July 28, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur, Alabama.
