

He graduated from Sylacauga High School in 1954 and then from Athens State University. Later, he attended Vanderbilt University’s Seminary School graduating with a Doctorate Degree in Divinity. Afterwards, he joined the United Methodist Church serving as a pastor for many years. He also holds a Masters Degree in Counseling from Alabama A&M University. After retirement from the clergy, he continued his passion for servitude by counseling youthful offenders at the Three Springs facility in Courtland.
Brantley had a passion for his family. He was a fixture at this grandsons’ games and activities. Another one of Brantley’s passions was his love for Vanderbilt. There are many memories of trips to Nashville for Vandy baseball and football games. He was proud to tell the story of riding a bus from Huntsville to Nashville to attend Vanderbilt.
Brantley went to be with the Lord on Tuesday January 30th after a long fight with a multitude of illnesses. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Motes, children Brant Motes (Gale Motes) Robbie Dodson (Richard Dodson), and Mike Motes. He has 4 grandchildren—Austin Motes (Jamie Motes), Adam Dodson, Micah Motes, and Kaylee Grace Simmons.
