Dr. Cole J. Young Jr. passed away June 3, 2012, at Morningside Assisted Living in Concord, N.C. He was born October 25, 1921, in Town Creek to Cole J. Young Sr. and Minnie Jeffreys Young. Graveside service will be today, June 8, 2012, at 11 a.m. in Roselawn Cemetery with Brother Wayne Newby officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.
Dr. Young graduated from Hazelwood High School in Town Creek in 1940. He graduated from Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1944, and practiced veterinarian medicine in Decatur for 45 years. Dr. Young was a Captain in the U.S. Army and was a member of Central Baptist Church. He was a member of Rising Sun Lodge and a member of American Legion Post 15 in Decatur. He was also a volunteer at Decatur General Hospital.
Dr. Young was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 49 years, Lucille Cantrell Young; and daughter, Mary Carol Emens. He is survived by one son, Cole J. Young III of Concord, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Sherri L. Young; sisters, Minnie Jean Briscoe and Annie Laura Posey of Town Creek; and grandsons, Randy Emens Jr. of Madison and Jeff Emens of Hartselle.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Decatur City Animal Shelter.
