

Mr. Smith was born April 12th, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri. His parents were Harold Wayne & Marguerite Smith. He was a native of Pensacola, Florida.
A man who devoted his life to service, Mr. Smith was a part of the Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church parish where he served in various ministries and sang in the choir. He also spent countless years serving in the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Smith worked as a Physical Education teacher at St. Ann’s Catholic School for several years and retired from Monsanto chemical company after 41 years.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents and by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Anne Bazzell Smith. Mr. Smith is survived by nine children, Mike Smith of Decatur, Maureen Cox (Richard) of Birmingham, Monica Cole (Timmy) of Hartselle, Mary Jett (Bob) of Decatur, Stella Kelly (Chris) of Athens, Vince Smith (Kyndra) of Priceville, Bernadette Brennaman (Eric) of Decatur, Cathy Rizzardi (Ron) of Huntsville, and Marty Smith (Dana) of Trinity. He is survived by 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. He is also survived by sisters Vicki Matthews (Rick) of Pensacola, FL, Kristina Stillsmoking (Jay) of Rock Springs, WY, and Rebecca McMinstry of Boise, ID, brothers, Jeff Chapman of Madras, OR and Bill Chapman (Carlene) of Irvins, UT, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors starting at 1:00pm on February 12th at Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church, followed by the Rosary at 2:00pm and Mass at 2:30pm. A graveside service will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
The committal service is scheduled to occur at Roselawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 709 Memorial Drive SW, Decatur, AL 35601, on February 12, 2026, from 3:50 pm to 4:15 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley or Save-A-Life Pregnancy Center.
