E.C. Blackard Jr, also known as Sandy, was born in Kingsport, Tennessee along with his younger sister Sally.
After receiving his mechanical engineering degree from Georgia tech and serving in the army, he married Kay St John of Stuttgart, Arkansas. He worked most of his life for Monsanto, which took them to Decatur Alabama, where they had their two children Bruce and Beth.
Here he happily lived out the rest of his life, surrounded by friends, including a heavy involvement in their church, the tennis community, and the Master Gardener society.
He is survived by his beautiful wife Kay, their son Bruce, their daughter Beth and their families.
