Funeral service for John W. Matthews, 87, of Decatur will be Thursday, April 7, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ben Hayes of Southside Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Matthews, who died Monday, April 4, 2011, at Decatur General Hospital, was born November 8, 1923, in Grayson County, Texas, to Leldon Leroy Matthews and Lela Magdaline Kernes Matthews. He served with the Seabees in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from Monsanto.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Lorene White Matthews; son, Rodger Allen Matthews; two daughters, Monita Gail Matthews Lind and Melissa Lynne Matthews Asherbranner; and grandchildren, Abigail Lind, Rachel Matthews, Jessica Asherbranner and Emily Asherbranner.
Pallbearers will be men of Southside Baptist Church.
