Funeral for Joseph Louis McElroy, 74, of Decatur will be Monday, May 23, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church with Father Ray Remke officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. Graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Colbert Memorial Gardens in Tuscumbia.
Mr. McElroy, who died Thursday, May 19, 2011, at Decatur General Hospital, was born November 24, 1936, in New York. He was a member of the Annunciation of The Lord Catholic Church where he served as an officer of the Pastoral Council and was a member of the ROMEO Breakfast Club. Mr. McElroy was a past member of the Knights of Columbus and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and the Army National Guard where he received the Army Achievement Medal. Mr. McElroy was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather to his four grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Douthit McElroy; one daughter, Cathy McElroy Parker and her husband, Jeff, of Decatur; one son, John David McElroy and his wife, Taylor, of East Limestone; and four grandchildren, Jackson, Spencer, Cameron and Brooklyn Parker.
