Funeral for Joy Holmes Ellis, 77, of Decatur will be Sunday, January 12, 2014, at 3:30 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Jay Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Ellis, who died January 9, 2014, at her residence, was born March 7, 1936, in Decatur to Adlie and Itasca Holmes. She was a dedicated Christian, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Shirley (Sonny) Holmes.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Chelcie "Chet" Ellis; son, Chelcie "Dell" Ellis Jr. (wife Karla) of Hartselle; daughter, Candy Ellis Vaden of Memphis, Tenn.; brothers, Jackie Holmes, Philip Holmes, Michael Holmes, Tim Holmes; sisters, Nancy Parker, Rachel Shores; grandchildren, Emily Vaden, Ethan Vaden, Ehren Vaden, Olivia Ellis and Ivana Ellis.
Pallbearers will be Jim Barnette, Dr. Jonathan Barnette, Joe Kennedy, Jacob Holmes, Eli Bryant and Bart Suggs.
