On the evening of January 18, 2025 Kathie Frederickson passed away peacefully at home with family at her side. She was 75 years old. Kathie was born July 13, 1949 in Kilgore, Texas. She was the youngest of four children, and was raised in Florence, Alabama. She graduated from Coffee High School in 1967, later attending UAB to become a dental hygienist. She met her match in Bob Frederickson at age 16 visiting a local hangout called The Woody Mac Corral. They were married February 16, 1968, and he was soon deployed to Vietnam with the United States Navy. After Bob returned, they had two children, Robert Todd Frederickson and Ashley Frederickson Froscello. In 1981, the family moved to Decatur, Alabama where they remained their entire lives.
Kathie was known for her upbeat personality, love of others, faith, toughness in the face of difficulty, and exquisite taste. She was never seen without her pearl earrings on and her red lipstick highlighting the ever-present smile people loved about her. She loved hydrangeas and was a master gardener. She was quick with a comeback and loved to laugh. Her altruistic nature was obvious throughout her life. She volunteered with several local organizations including Meals on Wheels, Neighborhood Christian Center, Decatur Morgan Hospital, Central Baptist Church, and was also a hospice sitter. She delivered devotional books to friends and family monthly in their mailboxes, and when she could no longer drive, her caregivers helped her accomplish this loving task still. Kathie faced many medical hurtles in the last 13 years of her life, and did so with grace, saying she knew God would take care of her. She believed what she learned from the bible, and it was evident in how she lived and loved daily.
She is preceded in death by her husband Bob Frederickson, parents Clyde and Edith Alvis, brother Stephen Alvis, and sister Connie Rice. Kathie is survived by her son Todd Frederickson, daughter Ashley Frederickson Froscello, son-in-law Kevin Froscello, grandchildren Marley and Jaxon Froscello, and Charlotte Frederickson, and brother Harry Alvis. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 1:00pm at Central Baptist Church in Decatur. Though Kathie is no longer here, she has joyfully reunited with Bob, and her life is an inspiration of faith and kindness to be both admired and emulated. Kathie's light continues to shine in the lives of those who knew her.
