Funeral for Martha Iola Lovvorn, 89, of Decatur will be Friday, April 8, 2011, at noon at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dallas Culver officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Lawn Cemetery, College Park, Ga. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Lovvorn, who died Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at St. Vincent's East Hospital, was born April 16, 1921, to Grady and Lucy Aldridge. She began teaching elementary school in West Point and moved to teach at Austinville Elementary School in Decatur and later at College Park, Ga. She worked approximately two years with Rev. Billy Graham Ministries. She then returned to the school system as a counselor and received a masters degree from Peabody College. Martha was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fayetteville and Austinville United Methodist Church in Decatur. She loved to play the organ and sing old gospel hymns. She made ceramics and her favorite pastime was spending time with friends. Her husband, Calvin Jefferson Lovvorn; and her son, Tommy Lovvorn, preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Richard Lovvorn (Paige); one sister, Ann Hodges; four grandchildren, Shannon Dunn (Brian), Justin Lovvorn (Nikki), Eric Lovvorn (Lisa) and Brent Lovvorn; and seven great-grandchildren.
