Funeral services for Mary Ann Douthit McElroy, 72, of Decatur, will be Monday, June 20, 2011, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Roselawn Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m. Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. before the service.
Mrs. McElroy, who died June 18, 2011, at Huntsville Hospital, was born February 16, 1939, in Colbert County to E. E. Douthit and Marguriette Daniel Douthit. She was employed by Decatur City Schools at Julian Harris Elementary School and was co-owner of de Caterers, Inc. catering company for over 10 years. She loved to play bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs. She was a great cook and loved to cook for family and friends. Mrs. McElroy was a regular volunteer at St. Ann's School during her children's school years. She was always involved in her children's and grandchildren's activities. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Her family, especially her grandchildren, was everything to her and she was everything to her family. She also served as past president on St. Ann's School Board. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James Douthit, Charles "Duck" Douthit, Jerry Douthit; and her husband, Joseph L. McElroy.
Survivors include one son, John David McElroy (Taylor); one daughter, Cathy McElroy Parker (Jeff); two brothers, Robert Douthit and Jack Douthit; four grandchildren, Jackson Parker, Spencer Parker, Cameron Parker and Brooklyn Parker.
