

Funeral service for Shirley Faye McCarley, 80, of Decatur will be Friday, October 13, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richie Thompson officiating. Burial will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
Mrs. McCarley, who died Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at her home, was born August 1, 1937, in Decatur. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Louise McBay Kent; brothers, Andrew Kent Jr. and Ronnie Gene Kent.
Following graduation from Calhoun Community College School of nursing, she began her medical career at Decatur General Hospital’s Nursery Department. She then went to work as a pediatric nurse for Dr. Kermit Pitt and continued until her retirement. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and a Lady of the Cahaba Shriners. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She enjoyed being a member of the Florence Corvette Club, as well as a founding member of the Black Magic Racing Team.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lloyd L. McCarley, Sr. of Decatur; daughters, Gail (Shug) Johnson-Torres (Jerry), of Elkmont; Nancy Colburn, of Los Angeles, California; son, Lloyd L. McCarley, Jr. (Beth), of Trinity; brothers, Vandis Ken, of Jacksonville, Florida; Mack Kent, of Hammond, Indiana; Larry Kent, of Nashville, Tennessee; Steve Kent, of Markham, Illinois; Jimmy Kent, Johnny Kent, and David Kent, all of Hammond, Indiana; sister Kathy Kent Babcock, of Oak Forest, Illinois. Grandchildren: Jonathan Shayne Johnson, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Brandon Keith Johnson (Kerry), of Muscle Shoals; Mike Johnson, II (Carrie), of Trinity; Johnathon Sparks, of Trinity; Angela McCarley Ritchie (Brandon), of Winchester, Tennessee; Ellis McCarley, of Huntsville; Benjamin Moore and Jason Moore, all of Los Angeles, California; Allen Colburn (Simone), of San Diego, California; nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be members of Mrs. McCarely’s Sunday School class.
