William Lewis (Bill) Gentry passed away Monday, July 28, 2025, here in Decatur, AL. He had lived in the area for the past eight years, after retiring from working in a missions’ shelter in North Carolina. Bill was born in Houston, TX, Nov 20,1954, and had lived in TN and NC until retirement.
Mr. Gentry is survived by his only sister, Susan G. Kirk, two nieces Lauren and Brettly Kirk, a great niece Abigail Caroline, and several stepfamily members, all of NC . He also had a stepbrother Mark Tiller, and a few aunts, uncles, cousins, all from TX and OH.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis A. Gentry of NC, mother Melba W. Tiller and stepfather Jeff Tiller of TX, and his youngest niece Madison Kirk of NC.
Mr. Gentry was mostly quiet, but those who knew him enjoyed his wit and wisdom. He loved his family dearly, but his faith in Jesus carried him home.
There will be a private family service at a later date.
