On February 8, 1957 God gave the world a gift in the form of a blond haired, blue eyed baby girl named Diane Marie Shannon. On February 28, 2026, at the age 69, only five short weeks after receiving a diagnosis of extremely rare and aggressive cancer, God called Diane home, completing the Robertson Family portrait in heaven.
Diane was the daughter of James and Jeanette Robertson, mother of two, Aunt Diane to many, and friend to all. She attended Deer Park Schools where she met and later married Dennis Shannon. After welcoming their two sons into the world, Diane’s vocation was first and foremost raising her boys. Diane worked for many years at Data Marketing Group among other jobs and most recently worked at Sun Auto. In 2016, Diane took a chance on a blind date and found love and companionship in David Goldstein. Diane and Dave married 2022 in their Florida “happy place” officiated by her equally as vibrant and selfless brother, David. Together, Dave and Diane spent their time celebrating life with friends, family, and friends who became family.
Diane was a generous, selfless woman who spent many years by the sides of her brothers and mother through their own battles. It was through Diane’s care, affection, and loyalty that others drew their strength and connectedness. One of Diane’s greatest strengths was fostering the relationships among those she loved. Diane’s vibrance, animation, love of family, and sense of humor will be remembered by those who knew her for a lifetime and to those whom she met in fleeting chance encounters. Diane’s generosity, hospitality, smile, laughter, and selflessness leaves an imprint on us all.
Diane’s world was her family: husband, brothers, parents, sons, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and extended family alike were Diane’s pride; her grandchildren, her joy. Nothing made Diane happier than spending time with her grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity for fun or adventure - family barbecues, block parties, hosting parties and holidays, golf cart rides, shuffleboard, and margaritas in their home in Florida. If Diane wasn’t hosting the party, she was the party. She is remembered by her love of all life had to give, including good food, festivities, and dancing. Diane's laughter rang loud and lovingly and anyone who met her, loved her.
Diane is preceded in death by her parents, James and Jeanette Robertson, brothers Dennis Robertson and David Robertson, and former husband, Dennis Shannon. She is survived by her sons, Bryan and Kevin Shannon, daughters-in-law, Christine and Alicia Shannon, husband David Goldstein and his daughters,Terri and Tracey, sisters-in-law Carol (Louie) Azzara, Denise Robertson, and Lori Robertson, her grandchildren Liam, Nicholas, Mason, Natalie, Ben, Sam, Tamsin and Tristan as well as many nieces and nephews who adored her and hold Diane in a special place in their hearts.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Stony Brook University Hospital, specifically the staff of floor 19N for their care and compassion during Diane’s stay.
