James E. McGuckin

James E. McGuckin, age 88, of Coram, and formerly of Deer Park, New York passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. James was born March 18, 1933. Beloved husband of Joan, brother of Ellen Wageman, loving father of James, Claire (Joseph), Margaret, Beth (James), John (Gina). Adored by his 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Beloved brother in law of Eileen Deviglio (Gary) and the late Herbert and Elizabeth Woram.

Jim was a United States Army Veteran, and a long-standing member of the FDNY. He was recognized for his heroic rescue of a child in 1970, and remained in the department for 35 years with Engines 325 & 225.

After his retirement, he worked on his golf swing at courses across Long Island, perfected his pancake flip, and enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and Saratoga with his wife and friends. He was a passionate fan of the Green Bay Packers, the New York Post’s most avid reader, and the luckiest horse gambler that has ever graced a track. Family and friends alike will miss hearing his signature “Toodles!”

Visitation will be held at Claude Boyd-Caratozzolo Funeral Home, from 2:00- 4:30PM and 7:00PM to 9:30PM. A final goodbye will occur Friday, January 28, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, An interment will occur Friday, January 28, at 12:30 PM at St.Charles Cemetery, 2015 Wellwood Ave, Farmingdale, New York 11785.
