

on May 10, 1930, she was the cherished only child of Vincent and Josephine Strukel, who
immigrated from Yugoslavia in search of a better life. For almost 70 years, she made Deer
Park, New York, her home, living with unwavering faith and devotion to her family.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Vincent, who passed away in 1989. Josephine
is survived by her children Maureen, Ed, and Mark, as well as her daughters‑in‑law Pasqui,
wife of Ed, and Jackie, wife of Mark.
A graduate of Montclair State Teachers College, Class of 1952, Josephine began her career at
Sperry, where she met Vincent, the love of her life. She later devoted many years to
teaching, retiring from Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Lindenhurst, NY, where her
kindness, patience, and steady presence shaped the lives of countless students.
Her Catholic faith was at the center of her life. As a devoted parishioner of St. Cyril and
Methodius Catholic Church, she attended daily Mass for many years, continuing faithfully
until she was no longer able to drive. Her church community was a source of strength,
purpose, and friendship throughout her life.
Josephine (Jo) was also an active member of the Deer Park Aquatic Center, where she
enjoyed connection and activity. She found joy in tending to her garden and expressing
herself through music, especially at the piano.
She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her resilience, and the quiet grace with which
she faced life’s joys and hardships. Her legacy endures in the many people whose lives she
touched.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 28, from 2–4 PM and 7–9 PM at Claude R.
Boyd – Caratozzolo Funeral Home in Deer Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated on Thursday, January 29, at 10:15 AM at St. Cyril and Methodius Church.
