Marilyn Helena Martinez, daughter of the late Theodore and Myrtle Jones was born on February 1, 1935 in New York City. She was the eldest of 4 daughters. She was raised in Harlem with her sisters Elaine, Ruth and Denise. After graduating from Julia Richmond High School, she began her career working at Elmhurst Hospital and then later at Beth Israel before retiring.
On February 3, 1956, Marilyn married James L. Martinez and their union produced 3 sons, Darryl, Derek and Dwain. Marilyn was a loving wife and devoted mother to her sons.
Marilyn enjoyed growing and caring for plants in her home. She had a gentle spirit and was very thoughtful. She always remembered everyone’s birthday, anniversary etc. and she would call or send you a card acknowledging your special day. She touched so many lives.
On October 4, 2024, Marilyn made her transition and is now resting peacefully. She is predeceased by her husband James, her parents Theodore and Myrtle, her sisters, Elaine, Ruth and Denise. Marilyn is survived by her sons Darryl, Derek, Dwain, her grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of family members that will miss her. Her love and kindness will live on in our hearts.
