

Margaret (Peggy Jean) Edmiston Cartwright 91, of Deer Park was called home to heaven on January 10, 2026. Peggy was born in Astoria, NY on December 30,1934 as the youngest child to John and Agnes (Carroll) Edmiston. It was here that she met her lifelong friends Thomas and Marilyn (Knott) Cummings and the love of her life and husband of 67 years, FDNY Battalion Chief, Harry Cartwright. Although Peggy wore many hats in her life, her favorite roles were wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved unconditionally, listened with empathy, and advised with wisdom. No matter the hardships she dealt with, she never complained and always cheered everyone up with her witty sense of humor. She touched the lives of everyone she met and she will be greatly missed. She is survived by her children Keri (Denis) Cartwright-Cox of Chittenango, NY, Wayne (Madeleine) Cartwright of Deer Park, Kris (Joe) Perota of Hilton Head Island, SC, Glenn (Cathy) Cartwright of Oyster Bay, Kathryn Cartwright of Deer Park, Kara (Rob) Cartwright of Patchogue, and daughter-in-law Susan Cartwright of Farmingdale. She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Kevin) Gardner, Shannon (Andy) Abernathy, Chelsea (James) Finlay, Ryan, Jaclyn, & Colin Cartwright, Lianna (Leo) DeBarba, Jillian Perota, Kyle and Courtney Cartwright, Michelle (Britt) Cartwright, Sean Cartwright, Samantha Cartwright, Damian, Alexandra, and Victoria Rivera. Six great grandchildren, who called her GiGi: Seamus and Finnegan Gardner, Caleb and Aurora Abernathy, and Jack and Sydney Finlay;and many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Peggy was predeceased by her loving husband Harry and her precious son, David, as well as her parents, sisters Dix(Otto) Hecht, Ruth Edmiston and brother John Edmiston.
