I'm completely surprised. I had no idea this great man passed away. I'm an young inspiring instructor over in Seattle WA, and it seems like only yesterday when I actually Spoke with O'sensei Duncan. I asked him in November i guess a week before he passed on the possibility of a class with him if I were to ever make it out to NY. He said he wasnt accepting new students but he was more than happy to go over principles while I was there. A Blessing it was to hear that, and if I would of known just shortly after we spoke he passed. I would of definitely planned that trip. Rest in peace sir!

Sensai, Although you passed away a year ago this week you are always in my thoughts and prayers.There is not a day that goes by that I do not thank God for the vast amount of knowledge you shared with me. I trained in the Jamacia Dojo, in Brentwood ,was with you at the Oriental World of Self Defense and Aron Banks. I was a talented black belt thanks to you. And those lessons have been imprinted in my brain for my lifetime.I will never forget your knowledge of the arts and your friendship. You are surely missed and never forgoten. Oh ni ga she mat su!! (Thank you for teaching me the way) Arigoto Sensai!

Sensei, always in my thoughts, prayers and my life. Although you left us a year ago tomorrow, you live within our hearts, minds and the art always. Your eternal student from the old "nabe", the old days and the old ways, rest in peace my Sensei, my mentor and my friend.

My heart felt condolenses to the famly of Shidoshi Duncan. Isaw him at the "Oriental World of Self Defense" in 1975 And had the blessed audience in 1991 when he had his dojo in Jamaica upstairs from a bowling alley. There we discussed the martial arts and spoke about being in the military, and how they treated blacks then and now . I look fondly at those times when we spoke briefly, and I will always cherish the wisdom he gave me in that brief time he and I spent together. I trained with Professor Duncan for 2 years when his school was on Jamaica Ave above the Dance Studio. He was a small man with a giant spirit never again will there be such a man. I am very sad of his passing but his legacy lives on in the people who he  taught though his Ways of the Winds system. Peace Life Allah Queens, NY

I would like to give my deepest condolences to the family.I just found out today of Sensai Duncans passing(1/7/13. He was and always will be my teacher in and out of the Martial Arts. I was his student and trained with him back in the 80s when I was just a young man. I am now in my 50s and will never forget the lessons he taught me in and out of the Dojo. He helped to shape me into the succesful family and buissnes man I am today. He will be soarly missed, I only wish I had not waited so long to reconnect with him. To the Duncan Family,
   As I write this I am overwhelmed with the numerous fond memories which I have of Sensei Duncan. I am experiencing great sadness due to his loss, and extreme gratitude for having had the opportunity to train under such a remarkable teacher, even if it was for a short time. I joined Sensei Duncan's dojo as a young teenager. Having had little direction in my life up until that point, the lessons which he taught me have served as a guiding light in some of the most difficult times of my life, which in many ways ultimately saved my life. Sensei's presence had such power that as his student, you pulled out the best from yourself, otherwise you were ashamed to be training in his dojo.  What he did for me was invaluable, but what is really special is that he had this same effect on hundreds of people who had the fortune  of crossing paths with this great man. His legacy will not be forgotten, and will continue to serve as an inspiration for generations to come.
My deepest sympathy goes to his family.

  I want to express my most sincere condolences to each and every one of you. Ever since I was a little girl, I would literally look up at a picture of Master Duncan on the Joseki in my dojo. My Shihan, and father, Rocco Damiano, would talk about Master Duncan with such admiration, respect and gratitude. Even though I never met Master Duncan in person, I felt a connection to him through studying the martial arts because his student became my Shihan, someone I now talk about with such admiration, respect and gratitude. 
  Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time, but Master Duncan's legacy will live on for generations.

I had a chance to be among the top martial artists in one room, Again to Honor O,Sensei.. And the last thing O,Sensei said to me in his backyard at his home ..was he had to use my invention to show his student that he had never ever seen done. In which i had invented a way to put a sheet of paper though a mans body. And lastly..he had giving me the title of Master. OUS!!

On my trips to NYC we met and he was always straight to the point. I will miss that...For the past two years he has been asking me when i would be back to meet but because of my work obligations i have not been able to make it to NYC. While I am deeply sorrowful over the loss of Sensei Duncan, I am thankful that not only his art but his way of life will live thru his family and students.
