Thomas A. Kelly Jr., also lovingly known as Poppa K., The Goose, or even Mr. Goose, was born in Mineola, NY, to Thomas Sr. and Mattie-Mae Kelly on February 1st, 1950. He grew up and attended school in Uniondale, NY, where he was a standout member of both the track and football teams. Thomas then attended Hofstra University, where he played football and lacrosse. On August 14th, 1978, he married Barbara Alonzo. A year later, the newlyweds purchased their forever home in Deer Park and started their family. Much of Thomas’ career was spent locally as a Computer Systems Analyst for Avis, A.I.L., and Eaton. Tom enjoyed music, golf, and softball. The brightest point of his softball career was being able to pitch on a championship team that included both of his sons. He dedicated countless hours, and drove thousands of miles traveling all over the country to watch both of his sons play collegiate lacrosse, which he wouldn’t have traded for the world. Goose loved to go camping in Benton, PA where he spent time with his family, and with great friends who became extended family. He found great joy in driving all of the children around the campground in his golf cart and hanging out around the fire pit with a drink in hand.
Thomas is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Sr., mother, Mattie-Mae, and brother, Edward.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, two extraordinarily handsome sons, Craig (Amy) and Ryan (Colleen), and his four beautiful grandchildren, Eve, Donovan, Reid, and Colbie.
We ask that you please share your memories of Thomas, as they will be compiled as a keepsake for his dear family. In lieu of flowers, Thomas wished to have donations made in his memory to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital https://www.stjude.org/donate/ or to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation https://t2t.org/donate/
