

Mr. William Beaton, age 91, of Orange City, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015, at the Orange City Area Health System in Orange City.
There will be a funeral service on Friday, July 17, in Deer Park, New York, with interment at the Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York.
Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
William Wilson was born on December 13, 1923, in Brooklyn, New York, the son of William Wilson and Jemima (Loch) Beaton, Sr. He was raised in New York, where he graduated from high school. He served in the United States Army during World War II, mostly in the Philippines.
On November 2, 1956, he married Doris Ann Hayes in Ozone Park, New York. They made their home in New York, where he was employed by the Railway Express Agency and later worked as a splicer for the New York Telephone Company. In 1988, they retired to Florida.
In March of 2013, Mr. and Mrs. Beaton moved to Orange City, where he became a resident of the Heritage House Nursing Home, transferring to their new Prairie Ridge Care Center in October of that year.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Orange City, the Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post in Orange City, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
“Bill” enjoyed fishing and playing cards. His family was very important to him, and he was known for his “grandpa cookies”.
Survivors include his wife of more than 58 years; three children and their spouses, Linda and Harlan Ver Steeg, of Orange City; William and Cindy Beaton, of Greenville, New York; and Carol and Chris Lenhardt, of Raleigh, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Tim Allen, and his wife, Julie; Daniel Ver Steeg, Suzanne Beaton, Erika Beaton, William Beaton, Claudia Meyer, and Julia Meyer; and two step-grandchildren, Conor and Noah Lenhardt.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, John Allen; and two brothers and a sister, Robert Beaton, Margaret Murphy, and James Beaton.
