Mike was born in Geneva, NY to Eugene and Helen Hefferon on August 5, 1943. He married Carol Fuller in 1963 in Camden, NY. Mike graduated from Cobleskill College with a degree in Restaurant and Hotel Management. He co-owned The Kitchen Restaurant in Hyde Park, New York for 12 years with his parents. Mike and Carol raised three children: Debbie, Michael and Cheri. In 1976, the family moved to Deerfield Beach, Florida where Mike dabbled in different types of employment, including a Real Estate Agent career, but found most contentment owning and operating “Residential Repair” for many years until retiring 10 years ago.
In his early years, Mike excelled in wrestling, basketball, golf, and football. He won MVP on his football team as a tight end. Mike was adventurous and enjoyed taking risks. He co-owned various race horses over the years in Saratoga Springs, NY where he and Carol eventually would spend their winters after retirement. There, they enjoyed connecting with their extended family and friends.
Mike’s Catholic faith was an integral part of his life. He would remind us of his younger years as an altar boy at St. Francis DeSales Church in Geneva, NY.
In his final years, he enjoyed sitting on his front porch listening to music or the news, but he especially enjoyed the many interactions he had with so many wonderful people. Mike had an ol’ irish knack for looking at the lighter side of life and making people laugh. His grandkids would say he was a fun and silly guy. His sense of humor was enjoyed by many throughout his life and until his final days.
Mike is preceded in death by his loving wife, Carol, parents Eugene and Helen, brother Bud, sister-in-law, Erin Hefferon, brother-in-law, Joseph Cherniske, sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and George Barnes, nephew, Marty Barnes and father and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Eunice Fuller.
Mike is survived by his children, Debbie Ivie (Stacy), Michael T. Hefferon(Kim) and Cheri Gibson. Mike(PopPop) will sorely be missed by his six grandchildren: Charlie and Blaise Edwards, Michael Verde, Matthew Hefferon and Emily and Amy Gibson. His brother Pat Hefferon, sister, Mary Cherniskie and sister-in-law Teal Hefferon.
