While living in Japan, Aiko became a master floral arranger and made Japanese Kabuki dolls. Aiko became a United States citizen on March 18, 1963 and was very proud to call herself an American. She also became a born again Christian in 1959 and loved her Lord Jesus Christ. She enjoyed reading The Holy Bible and having it read to her by family members. Aiko was always thinking of others before herself. She would open her home to others and would enjoy their fellowship and cooking for them. Cooking was one of the many ways she would show thanks and appreciation. Aiko was a very happy person with a contagious smile. Family was her first priority and she loved being the military wife of Robert L. Evans. She made it a point to be at all of her family’s events even when her children became adults. When Aiko worked, she was a professional tailor and enjoyed sewing as a hobby.
Aiko is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Robert L. Evans; children, Lori Evans-Wilson and husband James, Kimi Susan Evans and husband Masaru Frank Turner, and June Lee Day; grandchildren, Joshua James Wilson, Michael Geoffrey Barnes and wife Amber, Chelsea Paige Day, Morgan Gregory Barnes, and Stephanie Anne Barnes; great-grandchildren, Emma Blair Barnes, Brenden Michael Barnes, Alixandria Faith Berchem, Adaleigh Grace Barnes, and Javin Russell Guinn. Aiko was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Andrew Tyler Wilson; 4 sisters; and 2 brothers.
Aiko’s funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Sunnylane Southern Baptist Church.
