

Arthur Leon Thorp Jr. passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024, in Midwest City at the age of ninety-one. He was born in Foss, Oklahoma on December 19, 1932, to parents Arthur Leon Thorp Sr. and Edna Mae Thorp. Arthur graduated from Stafford High School (Valedictorian) and went onto receive a bachelor’s degree in history and education at Southwestern State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Another bachelor’ degree in Accounting at Oklahoma University, and a Juris Doctorate in Law at Oklahoma City University. He also spent 2 years in the Army where he attended basic training in El Paso, TX and then stationed at Ft. Lee, VA before moving back to Oklahoma and stationed at Ft. Sill, where he received a college deferment in 1956. He got married to his loving wife Loretta Joyce Thorp on December 24, 1970, and they were married for 52 years. Those who knew him would remember Arthur as a loving and providing husband, father and grandfather, faithful Christian and believer, friendly personality, successful career as an accountant, all-around caring and helpful person. Arthur loved his family, God, debating morals, ethics, and politics, staying up on current events, history and visiting historical sites. While he was not musically inclined, instead he preferred talk radio and sports. Arthur is someone who had a wonderful sense of humor and could always make someone laugh. He always had something new to share with others whenever they spoke with him. Though his health issues kept him from attending, he attended and received his baptism at Soldier Creek Baptist church in Midwest City. He was a 32nd degree mason, a long-time secretary and had the honor of being the last worshipful master at Broadway Circle lodge, which later merged with Lodge #36. Arthur was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was a partner at Owen and Thorp, Inc. Accounting firm for over 50 years.
Arthur is survived by his wife; Loretta Thorp of Oklahoma City; son; Rick Owens (Jenny Owens) of Edmond, OK; daughter Karla Mae Cochran (Billy Cochran) of Midwest City, OK; brother Eldon Thorp (Mary) of Albuquerque, NM; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by brother’s Victor Thorp and (Arlene) of Dallas, OR; Millard Thorp (Tetyana) of Denton, TX and Sister Virginia Dickenson and spouse Robert of Palmetto, GA.
A funeral service for Arthur will be Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Sunny Lane Funeral Home, 4000 SE 29th Street, Del City, OK 73115. Following the funeral service will be a burial at 3:00 PM at Sunny Lane Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4000 SE 29th St, Del City, OK 73115.
