Bernice Marie Smith

Bernice Marie (Wheeler) Smith was born on January 11, 1932 in Olathe, Kansas to Carl R. Wheeler Sr. and Laura (Huey) Wheeler. On January 4, 2024 at her home, Bernice went home to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 91 years. Billy J. Smith and Bernice M. Wheeler were united in marriage on March 30, 1951 in Springfield, MO. They were married for 65 years until his passing in 2017. Together they had three children, and with her husband Billy's job in the military they were stationed in many Air Force Bases around the country and overseas.

Bernice was a Paraprofessional at Mid-Del Schools for 20+ years. She was a member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, which raised funds for St. Jude's Children's Hospital. She was very artistic and enjoyed crocheting, gardening, calligraphy, and many other hobbies. She had a huge frog keepsake collection, and loved anything with frogs on it. She was a loving mother and grandmother, wonderful woman to everyone, and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Left behind to cherish the memory of Bernice is her daughter, Gynneth Roso; son, Selby Smith; grandchildren, Darren, Eric and Tyler Smith; sisters, Mary Clark and Shirley McDowell; God daughters, Brandy and Katie Collins.

Bernice is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Wanda Jo Smith; parents, Carl R. Wheeler Sr. and Laura (Huey) Wheeler; brothers, Carl Wheeler Jr. and Charles E. Wheeler; and sister, Dora L. Banks.

A visitation for Bernice will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 from 4-8pm at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home in Del City. Funeral services will be at 2pm Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Arlington Memory Gardens in Midwest City.

In memory of Bernice, donations may be made in her honor to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
