Emil “Mike” Rogell Throckmorton passed away on April 25, 2024, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 88 years old. He was born in Alva, Oklahoma, on October 6, 1935, to parents Myrle Arlene “Sally” Throckmorton and George Burnett Throckmorton. Mike attended Hutchinson Junior College, where he spent a year majoring in physical education. He joined the United States Air Force, where he served as a CMSGT for 33 years, then retired from Boeing. Mike had many achievements from his involvement within the military, such as the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and United Nations Service Medal—these three with the USMC—the Meritorious Service Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, the AF Commendation Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters (for saving an 8-month-old baby's life), and numerous others with the USAF.
During Mike’s younger years, he played basketball in school. Something that he loved was spending time fishing and golfing. Many know Mike as someone who is very proud of his success in his career and providing for his family.
He is survived by his wife Geraldine Thelma Throckmorton; daughter Kimberly Ann Kimmel of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sons Derek Wayne Throckmorton of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Troy Rogell Throckmorton of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; brother George Eldon Throckmorton (Betty Throckmorton); sister Bonita Somerholder; one grandchild, Brittany Kimmel; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.
A memorial service for Emil will be held Friday, May 3, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Sunny Lane Funeral Home, 4000 SE 29th Street, Del City, OK 73115. Following the memorial service will be an inurnment at 3:00 PM at Arlington Memory Gardens, 3400 N Midwest Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK 73141.
