Etta Lorene Walker, 99, joined her Heavenly family on February 14, 2015. She was born on April 12, 1915 in Coffeyville, KS to George Monroe and Etta Savannah (Beard) Chambers. Growing up during the Great Depression as a tenant farmer’s daughter, Etta learned the realities of hard work and the struggles involved in keeping a family together in times of scarcity and hardship. These would serve her well for the remainder of her life’s challenges.
Etta was a committed and loving life partner of 54 years, to husband, Walter Wesley Walker. Her life and activites were centered around him and their six children. She enjoyed gardening, studying nutrition, canning, cooking, quilting, sewing, baking breads, and tending to livestock.
As a young newlywed, Etta accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized later. She would read daily from the books of her favorite evangelist, Billy Graham, and loved to share her faith. She served as a Sunday School teacher, you and nursery worker, and attended Women’s Missionary Union at various churches throughout her churchgoing.
Etta was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Ralph and Roderick Walker; grandsons, Bradley and Mark Walker; siblings, Pinkney Chambers, Louise Harris, Benjamin, George, Iva and Leo Chambers, Mabel Skaggs, Nina Spears and Russell Chambers.
