Evelyn grew up during the Great Depression, which likely contributed to her strong work ethic and her amazing ability to manage money. Growing up, she helped her family out any way she could, including working in the cotton fields alongside her siblings. As an adult, she mainly worked as a bank teller until she retired.
Evelyn met the love of her life, Charles “Joe” Johnson, in 1954 and were married 4 months later. They had their one and only child, Gene, while stationed in Frankfurt, Germany in October of 1955. After Joe separated from the service, they purchased a home in OKC, where they grew old together.
Evelyn was a devout Christian and gave her all to God. She was very involved with her church, as it was an enormous part of her life. She had many hobbies, including making quilts and collecting things such as stamps, spoons, and thimbles. One of her favorite pastimes was reading her bible, praying, and attending church services.
At 90 years old, she lived a long and healthy life. She always spoke of how blessed she felt and how wonderful God was to her. Evelyn is now in heaven, celebrating the greatest family reunion of all time. Her last wish would to be able to share this reunion with all of us.
A visitation for Evelyn will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, 5005 SE 29th Street, Del City, OK 73115. A graveside service will occur Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Sunny Lane Cemetery, 4000 SE 29th St, Del City, OK 73115.
