

Freddie “Joe” Simmons, 81, of Midwest City, passed away February 22, 2018. He was born February 19, 1937 in Buckeye, Arizona. He was the son of Frederick Harrison Simmons and Opal Ruth (Justice) Simmons. Joe grew up in Altus, Oklahoma and worked as a butcher and farmed with his father as a young teenager. Joe had lived in Oklahoma City area since 1968, moving from Altus. Joe was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Oklahoma National Guard. He worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for approximately 20 years and had owned and operated Simmons Roofing and Construction Company for 35 years. Joe never met a stranger. He had a happy, positive, energetic and enthusiastic outlook on life. He was a positive role model for several and shared his faith in Christ with others.
Joe had a wide variety of interests, including being outdoors, fishing, traveling, drag racing, fast cars, music, dancing, treasure hunting, and collecting, to name a few. He loved his family and was a devout Christian. He was a member of Choctaw Road Baptist Church in Choctaw, OK. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Larry Marsh. He is survived by sisters, Roberta Calhoun of Oklahoma City; and sister, Janelle Eichorn of Irving, Tx.; his children include, Freddie Glen Simmons and wife Stormy of Oklahoma City, Tammy Jo Hunter and husband Rick of Luther, Rhonda Jan Simmons of Midwest City, Bryan Nathan Simmons and wife Meagan of Newalla and Brittany Jean Simmons and husband Adam Blackburn of Wellston; grandchildren include Daniel Miles, Joseph Miles, Olivia Simmons, Declan Simmons, Natalie Hunter, Marshall Hunter, Rylee Hunter, Jetta Rae Nelson, Shea Leigh Nelson, Brandon Simmons, Cheyenne Simmons, Jacklyn Simmons, Hailey Spradlin, Bridgett Blackburn, Aubrey Blackburn and 9 great-grandchildren.
