Gene Jones

Eugene “Gene” Ozment Jones, 86, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016, peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 19,1930 to John Paul and Bertha (Ozment) Jones in Norman, Oklahoma. Eugene was affectionately called “Gene” by many.

After his high school graduation, he immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force. A year later, he married the love of his life, Oleta Ruth Wilson on March 11, 1951 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. To this union four children were born, Paula, Mark, Cheryl, and Mike. Gene and Ruth enjoyed 65 wonderful years together; living a life that every married couple hopes to share with their soul mates.

Gene had a long and distinguished military career which included two tours to Vietnam; and he also flew in the Iron Curtain. He honorably served his country for 22 years as an Air Force Crew Chief. After retirement, he worked at Tinker Air Force Base for 30 years as a “Heat Treat” specialist. He also was a longtime member of the Commemorative Air Force , formerly known as the Confederate Air Force, which is an organization dedicated to preserving historical aircraft. He was a friend to all and most noted for his patriotism, love of America and his exceptional manners and politeness. He devoted his life to all of his family and friends. Gene was caring, loving and compassionate to everyone he met and was honored and proud to be an American who cherished his country and flag.

Gene enjoyed riding his motorcycle with the Tinker Belle riding club, and restoring antique cars. A jack-of-all-trades, Gene was very handy and mechanically inclined. He was a hands-on person who was always reaching out to help others. He also was a faithful member of Meadowood Baptist Church.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His loving wife, Ruth; children, Paula Hornibrook, Mark Jones, Cheryl Jones; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchilden, and a host of relatives and friends.
