George William “Buddy” Pope Jr., 83, died peacefully at home on March 16, 2019. George was born on December 3rd, 1935 to George Sr. and Hazel Pope in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He spent most of his adult life as a resident of Del City, OK. After graduating from Ozark Highschool in Arkansas, he joined the Army. After his tour of duty ended, he met and married the love of his life, Anna Walker, in 1958. He achieved a bachelors’ degree in Business Administration from Central State University while working in civil service at Tinker Air Force Base and raising a family. He retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 1993 after 30 plus years of service. After retirement he did contract work at Tinker for a time. He then went to work for Enterprise Car Rental. He finally retired for good around three years later.
George was a long-time member of Howard Memorial Baptist Church, who was always one to give people the benefit of the doubt and never spoke an unkind word about others. He was a kind and gentle man who loved his family and enjoyed spoiling his wife, his children, his grandchildren and his dog “Cash”. George also took pleasure in going to garage sales and auctions. When his four daughters were growing up, he enjoyed many summers at the lake, boating, teaching his kids to ski and ride motorcycles.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anna Pope and daughters Sherry Hogue, Karen Messner, Barbara Pruitt and husband Jon, Alisha Nicholson and husband Kevin. Seven grandchildren Jason Hogue, Shawn Hogue, Tricia Martinez, Bo Pruitt, Alyssa Casey, Candace Fox, Zach Robinson and fifteen great grandchildren.
The family would like to give thanks to Dr. Peggy Dubois, Dr. Gary Dubois and Dr. Randy Allen for the care that they gave him in his last days.
