Gerri grew up in Del City, Oklahoma, graduating from Del City High School in 1956. Her first marriage allowed her to see the country as an Air Force wife. She lived in Enid, Oklahoma and Denver, Colorado before crossing the Pacific to Misawa, Japan.
She returned to Del City in 1966 to raise her three children, Marty, Geary, and Tina. She was a devoted mother who gave all she had and more to provide a good life for them with the help of her second husband, Charlie Day, an officer with the Del City Police Department. He preceded her in death in 2014 after 35 years of love and support in a beautiful marriage.
Gerri had a rewarding 23-year career as executive secretary at Worldwide Motor Club, where she and its owner/CEO, John Amar, helped thousands of members with breakdowns, accidents, flat tires, and traffic citations. Together, they relished every opportunity to help others.
Gerri loved to watch Oklahoma Sooners softball and Oklahoma City Thunder basketball, getting so attached to players that they were like another set of grandchildren, but she, of course, always preferred her actual grandchildren, treasuring their visits.
She was particularly close to her grandson Alex, who cared for her in her last years, which were further enriched by the joy she experienced from having all three of her children living just a few miles away from her for the first time in decades.
She always loved her dogs, doting on them to no end, and visiting her neighbors and friends. She had a wonderful sense of humor, making wisecracks whenever the opportunity arose, and she had an unforgettable laugh, which suited someone who laughed as much as she.
Gerri was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charlie, brother Tom Martin, sister and brother-in-law, Emogene and Eugene Osborn, and stepdaughter Debra Fay Pooler. She was reunited with them all on Wednesday, July 5th, 2023.
She is survived by her daughter Tina Haider; sons Marty Marks (Melissa) and Geary Marks (Carrie), and stepson Chuck Day; sisters-in-law Nila Martin and Mary Jane Hardesty; grandsons Alex Haider, Nathan Marks (Amber), Chad Marks, Paul Marks, Isaac Marks, Floyd Day, and Blaine Gingras; granddaughters Alicia Roa (John), Chelsea Marks, Moira Marks, Bellamy Marks, and Charli Day; great granddaughters Lillian Haider and Alexus Roa; great grandsons Elliott, Arthur, and Franklin Marks; nephews Eugene and Tom Osborn; and niece Gerri Ford.
A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, July 30th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Del City American Legion Hall, 5000 SE 24th St, Del City, Oklahoma 73115.
