Jeffrey Alan Karr, known to family and friends as Jeff or “Jeffbro,” was born in San Bernardino, CA, on October 12, 1971. He spent his school years in Midwest City, Moore, and Guthrie, graduating from Guthrie High School in 1989. During that time, he served as President of VICA for Carpentry and competed in track and cross country. Soon after graduation, Jeff chose a path of service and enlisted in the United States Navy. Stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, he traveled the world and proudly served as an ABH3 (Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Handler 3rd Class) aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) during Operation Desert Storm.
After his military service, Jeff built a lasting career at Associated Wholesale Grocers, where he worked for 28 years. He quickly earned the respect and admiration of his coworkers as someone who never shied away from hard work and was always willing to go the extra mile to see the job through.
Outside of work, Jeff’s passion for music led him deep into the local rock scene. He devoted countless hours to helping bands such as Horse Called War and Shotgun Therapy with promotion and bookings, later channeling his energy into his own venture, Black Nine Apparel LLC. What began with small custom shirt orders soon grew into a thriving business producing hundreds of shirts, hats, and other items. One of his proudest milestones was no longer having to rely on his spare bedroom—or his brother’s garage for larger orders—and instead building a custom shop on his own land, a space that embodied both his hard work and determination.
Jeff was also an avid pool and dart player, competing in leagues where he became well known for his skill, competitive spirit, and good humor. His many interests, talents, and tireless work ethic reflected his dedication to the people and passions that mattered most to him.
Jeff is survived by his mother, Charlotte Manning of Harrah, OK; his father, John Karr, and stepmother Lynda of Martha, OK; brothers Don Manning Jr. and wife Christina of Oklahoma City, and Wyatt Karr of Midwest City; uncles David Christy of Waukomis, OK, and Jack Karr of Little Elm, TX; cousins Marc Christy of Kemp, TX, Andrew Christy of Spokane, WA, and Alan Christy of Oklahoma City; nephews Tyler, Noah, Nicolas, Zachary, Jonathan, Christian, Tyger, Elijah, and Jaxon; and niece Chastity. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Yunia of Oklahoma City; former stepfather, Don Manning Sr. of Guthrie, OK; and former stepmother, Nancy Karr of Del City, OK. Finally, Jeff leaves behind his best friend Sara, his tabby cat of 11 years. Don’t worry Jeff, we will make sure Sara gets her eight treats a day.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Chandler of Midwest City.
Jeff will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, strong work ethic, quick humor, and the way he showed his care—through loyalty, a friendly ear, and sharing a few good beers. His presence will be profoundly missed, yet his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Following the service, there will be a gathering at Lumpy’s in Midwest City at 4:30 p.m. for anyone who would like to raise a glass in Jeff’s memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Red Dirt Relief Fund at www.reddirtrelieffund.org.
