

On November 29th 1918 John William Lovelace was born to Etta Lee (McCarty) and Charles Burless Lovelace in Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma. He Joined the United States Army’s 45th Infantry National Guard on September 24th, 1940 and was discharged on March 2, 1944. He rejoined the army and fought valiantly in Sicily during World War II where he was wounded in July of 1943. His injuries caused him to spend 6 moths in the hospital in North African and another two months at a hospital in Temple, Texas. Because of his amazing service came home a decorated war veteran. Some of his awards include Campaign Medals, American Defense Service Ribbon, Good Conduct medal and a Purple Heart. John lived in Del City, Oklahoma for most of his life. He worked over 50 years for Jake Russell & Robert painting homes. He was an active member of the community and participated in many different organizations throughout his life including The Del City Veterans of Foreign War Post # 9969, Disabled American Veterans, The Blue Lodge Scottish Rite, Del City Masonic Lodge #36 and he was also affiliated with the Shriners. John loved music and played the drums, he was a member of a many different bands including The Country Gentleman Band. John leaves his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John loved the Lord Jesus Christ, Family and Country. He is loved and missed by all of the family and friends his life touched during his 97 years with us. Vaya Con Dios Daddy!
All services will be held at Sunny Lane Funeral Home at 4000 SE 29th Street, Del City, OK 73115. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 4th, 2016 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm. Funeral Service will be on Thursday, May 5th, 2016 at 10:00am with a committal ceremony will be immediately following at Sunny Lane Cemetery. Organizations in attendance will be Oklahoma City Shriners, Del City Masonic lodge #36, Del City Veterans of Foreign War Post #9969, American Legion Post 73 and The Patriot Guard Riders of Oklahoma.
