

John proudly served his country in the United States Navy, an experience that reflected his lifelong sense of duty and dedication. After his military service, he built a long and respected career as a diesel mechanic. Known for his remarkable skill and steady work ethic, John had a natural gift for fixing and building just about anything. If something was broken, family and friends knew he was the one to call.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean Tipton; his parents, Ralph, and Mary Tipton; eight siblings; and his son-in-law, Gerald McClendon.
John is survived by his sister, Betty Stroh; and his three daughters: Mary Gregory and her husband, Houye; Pam McClendon; and Barbara Sterk and her husband, Ron. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
John found great happiness in the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, traveling, and attending bluegrass festivals, embracing every opportunity to gather with others and enjoy life’s simple pleasures. In his neighborhood, he was known for his generous spirit and helping hands. He often spent his time repairing things for friends and neighbors, never expecting anything in return—he simply loved being of service.
John will be remembered for his kindness, unwavering love for his family, and the steady, dependable presence he provided throughout his life. His legacy of service, hard work, and generosity will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.
A memorial service will be held at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home at Sunny Lane Cemetery, located at 4000 SE 29th Street, Del City, OK, 73115. The service is scheduled for February 20, 2026, starting at 2:00 pm.
