

Born August 23, 1947, Nashville, KS to Walter L. and Wanda Jurlean Catlin Swinton of Medicine Lodge, KS. They lived in Medicine Lodge, but Nashville was the closest town with a hospital. The hospital was also the clinic as well as the doctor’s home. At age two, her Father was transferred to Pratt, KS.
She lived in Pratt where she took her first job as a cashier in a local grocery store until her marriage at 18, to Lloyd Longnecker of Coats, KS on Nov. 13, 1965. They lived in Turon, KS then moved on a plantation in Hutchinson, KS and Jurlean worked at a laundry/cleaners. She then worked for a construction firm printing all the spec books for the shopping malls the company bid on. Later she became a registered medical assistant and they lived in Wichita for 11 years before moving to Guthrie, OK. Jurlean worked as a nurse/x-ray tech for a group of doctors until she hurt her back working with a patient. She then worked at the Guthrie Job Corp where she was one of the chosen five to implement the Job Corp into the computer age. She then went to work at Channel 43 until her department was closed, then worked at TAFB for nine months, then worked at the Veteran’s Hospital for 17 years where she medically retired.
After her retirement she volunteered at the Midwest City Hospital in the surgery waiting area until her husband became ill. She volunteered in the kitchen of the First Baptist Church in Midwest City for a Mobile Meals program. She volunteered on Wednesday nights to dish up desserts for the evening meal. When her doctor told her she could no longer work at these jobs, she started a card ministry from her home for the recipients of the Midwest City area Mobile Meals program. Later Lora Williams joined her in this ministry and the name Master’s Ministry came to being. They also crocheted blankets and caps for the Hope Pregnancy Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd, of 38 hears, her brother, Ellsworth Swinton, great-grandson Gage Teel, and great-great-granddaughter Adalynn Teel. She leaves behind her grandson, Gregory Teel and wife Allison of Purcell, OK, grandson Anthony Rider of Popular Bluff, Missouri, her granddaughter, Dusti Rider of Popular Bluff, Missouri, daughter Tammy and Kevin Wallace of Hudson CO, sister-in-law Shirly Swinton Froleich. Also her precious great-grandchildren Rachel, Brnylee, River Teel, and Aubrey Rider. She leaves behind cousins, nephews, nieces, and her church family.
Jurlean requests memorial donations made to Un Wed Mother’s or the abused children’s home in Owasso, OK, or the Hope Pregnancy Center in OKC, OK.
